The Board of Directors would like to invite the membership to "Adopt a Receipt" to help with the costs of appointing the two adopted apartments in the YWCA's new Shelter for Abused Women & Children.
Although we had many generous donations from our membership, we still fell short of our goal to have everything donated. It has been 5 months of hard work, painting, cleaning and organizing and seeking donations of furnishings and general household items. However it was still necessary to purchase needed items to complete the units. We believe this to be a very worthy cause for our community and therefore would like to ask you to "Adopt a Receipt" to help out in this very worthy cause.
This is a copy of the letter sent to the Designers participating in the YWCA Shelter Project. At the opening ribbon cutting ceremony this past Monday one of the pervious shelter residences commented on the spaces. The ASID Board of Directors would like to share this letter with our membership because we truly believe this is a testimony of how a ‘well designed space’’ aids the mental and physical well being of the women and children who have sot refuge in the YWCA shelter.
All,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at today’s ribbon cutting. I had the honor of showing our former client, Tamie, who spoke from the podium the building.
Tamie was stunned with the beauty in each unit. She marveled at the detail you all brought to the project--the little extras that will make our clients feel valued and comfortable. She exclaimed over the ample desk space for kids (nearly non-existent currently). She cried multiple times, and said, "When they (future clients) walk into these apartments, they are going to have a feeling of, ‘I can do this.’"
Watching people who attended the ribbon cutting get a sneak peek of the building was great—there was a uniform look of disbelief and awe on the faces of everyone viewing your incredible work.
We want to get as many people here this weekend as possible, and can use your help. We have a Facebook event inviting people to this weekend’s "Room to Dream" event—it’s an open invitation, so please invite your friends to attend. It’s called: YWCA Shelter Showcase: "Room to Dream"
Also, check out and share the great coverage we got from Sunset Magazine’s blog: http://www.homebysunset.com/
Thank you all for your dedication and commitment to our clients. Showing off the shelter has been the realization of a dream for us.
Best,
Kelly McDonald
